Philipp-Melzer clinch title in Vienna


Philipp and his partner Jurgen Melzer captured the Erste Bank Open title on Sunday with a 7-6 (6), 4-6, 10-7 victory over Andre Begemann and Julian Knowle in the finals of the ATP World Tour 250 event. The match lasted one hour and 45 minutes.


The teams traded breaks once in the opening set. It went to a tie-breaker, which Philipp and Jurgen won 8-6 after 52 minutes of play.


They suffered one break of serve in the second set which resulted in their rivals leveling to one set all.


Philipp and his partner won the battle between the two German/Austrian pairings taking the super tie-breaker 10-7.


Stats: aces (3-2), double faults (5-2), total points won (77-70).


Petzsch and Jurgen previously eliminated top seeds Peya and Soares in round one and no.4 seeds Gonzalez and Rosol in the semifinals.
