Philipp-Jurgen Capture 2nd Grand Slam Title


No 9. seeds Philipp and Jurgen Melzer captured their second Grand Slam title on Saturday as they beat No. 6 seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 6-2, 6-2 in the US Open final.

"From the word go, we were playing really well," said Jurgen. "The opponents were a little bit nervous from the beginning and we fully used that to our advantage." Philipp added, "Winning another slam is an amazing feeling. We're both really happy the way it turned out."

The German-Austrian tandem grabbed an early break in the opening set and raced to a 4-0 lead in 8 minutes, winning 16 of the first 17 points. They took the first set in 22 minutes. The second set was a bit closer in the first games four games but the Poles could do nothing to stop Philipp and Jurgen's flare and superb play.
