's-Hertogenbosch: Ferrer Beats Philipp in Final

Philipp suffered a defeat in the final of the UNICEF Open on Saturday as he lost 6-3, 6-4 to world No. 6 David Ferrer.

“I'm very, very happy. I've won two times here,” said Ferrer. “This is special for me because grass is maybe my worst surface. On a clay court or hard court, my game is more adapted.”

The Spaniard won 78 per cent of his first serve points and broke Philipp three times to clinch victory in 70 minutes.

“Today was a tough match. The key was with my serve,” assessed Ferrer. “I served very good all the match. I played my best match of this week. I was more consistent than in my last matches.”

It was Philipp's third ATP World Tour final - his last came in Vienna four years ago.

“I think he played a great match. He deserved to win the tournament and he was the best player here,” Philipp said. “I made too many mistakes today. If I want to beat him, I have to play at my highest level. But I'm happy with the week. I played really good tennis.”
